hong kong: The Hong Kong government has said it will distribute around 210,000 sets of Covid-19 rapid antigen test (RAT) kits as part of a follow-up to the recent detection of the virus in sewage samples .

The test kits will be distributed to residents, cleaners and property management staff working in areas where positive sewer test results show relatively high viral loads to help identify those infected, the report reports. ‘Press Agency.

The government has also urged RAT kit users to report any positive results for Covid-19 via its online platform.

On Saturday, Hong Kong recorded 4,034 confirmed locally transmitted Covid-19 cases and 231 imported cases.

Since the start of a mass inoculation program in February last year, more than 6.76 million people, or 92.9% of the eligible population in Hong Kong, have taken at least one dose of vaccines Covid-19, while more than 6.5 million, or 89.3 percent of the eligible population, received two injections.

By Saturday, 66.4% of eligible people in Hong Kong had taken their booster doses, while a total of 191,554 people had taken the fourth vaccine, according to official data.

A spokesperson for the Health Protection Center (CHP) stressed that as the local situation of Covid-19 infection is still serious, the CHP strongly appealed to the community to continue to observe social distancing measures, avoid going out and refrain from participating in unnecessary or overcrowded activities or gatherings.

The spokesperson urged people who have not yet taken vaccines, especially the elderly, chronic patients and immunocompromised people who are at higher risk of death from Covid-19 infection, to get vaccinate as soon as possible.
